Individual, Group, or Hybrid: How to Choose the Right English Class Format for Your Child

Every child learns differently — and when it comes to picking up a new language, the format of a class can matter just as much as the teacher or the curriculum. At PRIMEDUK, we offer three main ways for children to learn English online: one-to-one lessons, group classes, and a hybrid mix of both. Here's how to work out which one is the best fit for your child.

1-to-1 Fast Track: for focused, personalised progress

If your child needs concentrated attention, or you're working toward a specific goal — an upcoming exam, a move abroad, or simply building confidence quickly — individual classes are usually the fastest route. A private lesson means the whole session is shaped around your child: their pace, their interests, and the exact areas where they need the most practice. It also removes any pressure that comes from speaking in front of classmates, which can be a big win for shyer learners.

This format tends to suit children who are just starting out and need a gentler introduction, as well as more advanced students who want to push ahead faster than a group setting allows.

Mini-Group Essentials: for social confidence and steady habits

Learning alongside two or three other children brings a different kind of value. Group classes build the confidence to actually use English in conversation — not just understand it — because there are real peers to talk to, not just a teacher. Children often relax more in a small group, learn from each other's questions, and stay motivated by a bit of friendly momentum.

This is a great option for children who enjoy routine and community, and for parents looking for a more budget-friendly way to keep their child learning consistently over time.

Hybrid Plus: the best of both

Not every family wants to choose one or the other — and they don't have to. A hybrid plan combines individual sessions with group classes, giving your child focused, personalised coaching alongside regular opportunities to practise socially. It's a popular middle ground for parents who want faster progress than a group-only plan but don't want to give up the social, conversational side of learning.

So, which one is right for your child?

A few quick questions can help: does your child get nervous speaking in front of others, or do they thrive on group energy? Are you working toward a specific deadline, or building a long-term habit? Is budget or scheduling flexibility a bigger priority than speed of progress?

There's no wrong answer — plenty of PRIMEDUK families start in one format and switch as their child's needs change. If you're not sure where to start, our team is always happy to talk through your child's learning style and recommend a format before you commit.

You can compare all three plans side by side, including pricing and what's included, on our Class Plans page, or head over to the Students section to learn more about how PRIMEDUK classes work.
